Introduction to YSJ University
Situated in the heart of the historic city of York, and with the addition of our London Campus, York St John University has a long and proud tradition as a distinguished higher education provider.
Our success is founded on the quality of academic teaching and research, our thriving campus environments, our professional and pastoral support, and our values of an inclusive, innovative and ambitious community with a strong sense of belonging.
York St John is an ambitious, modern university at the heart of historic York and there has never been a more exciting time to join us. As one of the fastest growing universities in the UK over recent years, we have a new strategy for the next decade, emphasising our commitment to widening opportunity through the power of education and contributing our talents to creating a fairer world, and a more prosperous region. We are putting inspirational learning and impactful research at the heart of this strategy, recognising our academic expertise as our greatest asset.
The Team
You will be joining Innovation and Technology Services (ITS) department, working within the Infrastructure Deployment team. This team plays a critical role in delivering our Windows 11 and mobile computing/AV upgrade programme.
As part of this dedicated team, you will work alongside experienced infrastructure professionals who focus on building, supporting and maintaining the university's digital infrastructure.
The Role
We are looking to recruit two Windows 11 Deployment Engineers to support two major technology programmes:
A University-wide hardware refresh and Windows 11 rollout, which includes the transition the University to mobile computing.
The IT desktop infrastructure fit-out of our newly acquired King’s Manor site
In this hands-on role, you will be responsible for upgrading/replacing over 1,000 campus computers and associated peripherals from Windows 10 to Windows 11, as well as supporting the rollout of progressive rollout or mobile computing devices. Your duties will include preparing and configuring devices, delivering them in person, and providing a personalised 1:1 handover and onboarding experience to ensure a smooth transition for staff.
You will also manage the removal and secure disposal of old equipment, maintain accurate asset records, and ensure effective stock control. This is a campus-based role in York, with occasional travel to our London campus. Physical handling of equipment is required, and adherence to deployment schedules is critical to success. This role is fixed term for 18 months.

Strong understanding and experience in Windows desktop deployment in an enterprise environment.
Experience with Microsoft System Center technologies and scripting (e.g., PowerShell).
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
Organised, proactive and customer-focused approach.
This role involves manual handling and may require occasional evening or weekend work, with some travel to our London campus may be required.
Successful candidates will possess a strong sense of independence and motivation, paired with a solid foundation in cyber security principles. Adaptability is essential, as the role involves both collaborative teamwork and the ability to handle incidents autonomously.
While not essential, technical qualifications such as CCNA or MCSE would be advantageous. A foundation-level certification in ITIL or PRINCE2 is also desirable. Experience with mobile technologies, Apple devices, and AV systems would further strengthen your application.
Overall, we are looking for individuals who are as comfortable operating independently as they are collaborating within a team, and who are eager to contribute their expertise to ensuring we meet our tight deadlines for our deployment.
This role involves manual handling of equipment and may require working at height or in confined spaces. Occasional evening or weekend work may be necessary to support key University activities. Some travel to our London campus and overnight stays may be required.
