A rare and exciting opportunity has arisen for a talented, ambitious, and engaging individual to develop themselves further within The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust as a Practice Development Nurse (Infection Prevention and Control). This innovative role allows the successful candidate to use their expert clinical knowledge whilst working in partnership with the clinical teams to make a real difference in patient outcomes.

The postholder will work collaboratively within all clinical boards, which cover acute and community settings. They will need to be proactive, adaptable and have excellent interpersonal and communication skills and have a strong ability to manage and influence change to develop practice, utilising the most recent evidence base.

The successful candidate appointed in this exciting role will focus on the following key objectives:
• To support the Director of Infection Prevention and Control, Matron Infection Prevention and Control and in developing and delivering a quality, proactive evidence-based service throughout the Trust.
• To effect IPC practice change across the organisation in line with best practice related to priorities around Harm Free Care and delivering ongoing education, training and support for all members of the MDT.
• Lead on practice development initiatives and contribute to corporate training and education.
• Develop collaborative working relationships and contribute to strategic developments between all the Clinical Educators within the Trust which will help provide a framework for sharing good practice

• The primary purpose of this role is to effect IPC practice change across the organisation in line with best practice related to priorities around Harm Free Care and delivering ongoing education, training and support for all members of the MDT.
• Develop and undertake Clinical audit strategies to enable clinical teams to “know how they are doing”.
• Identify all opportunities for themselves and others where learning can take place, both formally and informally.
• Undertake a Training Needs Analysis and maintain registers of training as appropriate.
• Contribute to corporate training and education.
• Lead on practice development initiatives.
• Develop appropriate competency based clinical skills education and develop relevant competency assessment documents.
• To maintain the delivery and quality of services provided within the care environment including the care delivered, setting of nursing standards and leadership of the team.
• To provide a nursing lead as a member of the multidisciplinary team.
• Influence change and development of practice, utilising the most recent evidence base.
• Contribute to and complete performance review of nursing staff.
• Abide by Trust policies when dealing with complaints, accidents and incidents.
• Maintain discipline within the clinical area, abiding by Trust Disciplinary Procedure Policies.
• Implementation of evaluation audits to measure the impact of educational.
• This is a suitable post for an experienced registered nurse with established clinical and educational skills, who wishes to further develop practice within the department and Trust wide.
• When necessary will act as a supervisor for staff undertaking formal educational programmes within the clinical environment.
• Develop collaborative working relationships and contribute to strategic developments between all the Clinical Educators within the Trust which will help provide a framework for sharing good practice.
• Contribute to the broader professional debates and developments within the Trust through membership of the Practice Development Group.
• To raise the profile of the Trust at local and national level.
• May well lead a programme of education within the Trust or in partnership with higher education providers.
