East Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership is seeking to appoint a Senior Practitioner to work alongside the Adult Social Work management team based at John Muir House, with a specialist lead in Mental Health.
This pivotal role will involve working in close collaboration with the Community Mental Health Team, with opportunities to be based at East Lothian Community Hospital, with a shared focus on delivering urgent and early interventions, supporting rehabilitation, and achieving positive outcomes for individuals. The post holder will also play a key role in facilitating safe and timely discharges from the Royal Edinburgh Hospital, under the supervision of the Team Manager for Mental Health.
Key responsibilities include:
- Supervision of Social Workers aligned to the Community Mental Health Team, as well as contributing to the leadership of staff across the wider Adult Social Work Team. The post holder will also support a small number of staff from the wider Social Work assessment team.
- Service development: Contributing to the ongoing design and improvement of Mental Health Social Work services in East Lothian. This includes collaboration with Third Sector agencies.
- Duty Team participation: Supporting the coordination and direction of incoming referrals to Adult Social Work, including oversight of Adult Protection allocations on a rota basis.
- Caseload management: Overseeing Mental Health Social Work waiting lists and ensuring effective allocation of work across the team.
This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated and experienced practitioner to take a leading role in shaping mental health services and making a meaningful impact in the lives of adults across East Lothian.

Job Requirements
Education/Qualifications
Essential: Approved qualification in Social Work.
Registration with Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC).
Those with international Social Work qualifications should not apply unless they are fully registered with the SSSC.
Desirable: Post qualifying award
Driving Licence
Full current driving licence and access to a vehicle*
