Summary

‍ We Are Hiring: Cook – Nursery Setting
Location: SL1, Slough
Pay Rate: £13.50 per hour
Working Hours: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM
Reports To: Nursery Manager / Deputy Manager

About the Role
We are currently recruiting a Cook for our valued nursery client in Slough (SL1). The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and serving nutritious, well-balanced meals for children, while maintaining the highest standards of food hygiene, safety, and cleanliness in the kitchen.

Qualification
1. Basic Food Handling Certificate (essential)
2. Food Hygiene and Safety training (desirable)

Key Responsibilities
* Follow the Safer Food, Better Business guidelines from the Food Standards Agency.
* Attend food hygiene and safety training as required.
* Identify children’s allergies and special dietary requirements daily and cater for them appropriately.
* Check sell-by dates on all perishable goods and ensure proper stock rotation.
* Inspect all food deliveries for quality, temperature, and expiry.
* Store food safely in accordance with Environmental Health regulations.
* Use the correct kitchen equipment (e.g., coloured chopping boards) to avoid cross-contamination.
* Check children’s attendance daily to prepare the correct amount of food and reduce waste.
* Prepare and cook balanced meals in line with the nursery’s four-week rotating menu.
* Ensure all food is cooked to the correct temperature and record this in the Safer Food, Better Business log.
* Keep the kitchen area clean and tidy by following the daily cleaning rota.
* Maintain high personal hygiene standards, including regular hand washing.
* Record daily fridge/freezer temperatures.
* Wear the provided apron and hat to maintain food safety.
* Liaise with the Environmental Health Officer during inspections and implement any recommendations.
* Present food attractively and provide children with healthy choices.
* Encourage children’s independence by preparing food suitable for self-service.
* Prepare and store food safely for afternoon tea.
* Monitor food stock levels and complete monthly stock checks.
* Wash and store dishes properly to maintain safety and hygiene.
* Check dishwasher salt and rinse aid weekly.
* Clean kitchen appliances regularly and ensure they are in good working order.
* Assist with cleaning tables, chairs, and floors after mealtimes when needed.
