Job Summary: Specialist SEND Teacher (History & Geography GCSE)A school is seeking a highly skilled and empathetic SEND Secondary Teacher specialising in History and Geography up to GCSE level. This is a unique opportunity to join the founding team of our new SEND Secondary School in Surrey, opening in September 2025. We deliver specialised education for students aged 11-16 with Autism, social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs. Qualified candidates with PGCE/QTS and experience in Autism education are invited to apply for this rewarding role offering a salary range of £34,398 - £48,913 and a £5,000 Welcome Bonus.
Key Responsibilities & SkillsThe successful candidate will excel in providing high-quality, specialised instruction and working collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team.
- Deliver outstanding teaching and learning in History and Geography to students with complex needs up to GCSE.
- Develop, implement, and assess tailored short, medium, and long-term lesson plans.
- Set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets to track student progress.
- Maintain an up-to-date awareness of current best practices in Autism education.
- Manage challenging behaviours effectively, adhering to school policies.
- Contribute to ongoing curriculum development for pupils with SEND.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, reporting on student achievement.
Experience: 1+ year relevant teaching experience.
Essential Qualifications & KnowledgeWe require dedicated professionals who possess the following:
- PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or equivalent teaching qualification.
- Demonstrable ability to teach History and Geography to GCSE.
- Strong working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND.
- In-depth understanding and experience of Autism and associated co-morbid conditions, and their impact on learning.
- Demonstrated knowledge of the National Curriculum framework.
- Evidence of commitment to continuous professional development.
