Job Summary: Specialist SEND Teacher (Science GCSE)

A school is seeking a highly skilled and empathetic SEND Secondary Teacher specialising in Science up to GCSE level. This is a unique opportunity to join the founding team of our new SEND Secondary School in Surrey, opening in September 2025. We deliver specialised education for students aged 11-16 with Autism, social communication, emotional regulation, and sensory processing needs. Qualified candidates with PGCE/QTS and experience in Autism education are invited to apply for this rewarding role offering a salary range of £34,398 - £48,913 and a £5,000 Welcome Bonus.

Key Responsibilities & Skills
  • Deliver outstanding teaching and learning in Science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) to students with complex needs up to GCSE.
  • Develop, implement, and assess tailored short, medium, and long-term lesson plans.
  • Set, monitor, and review personalised learning targets to track student progress.
  • Maintain an up-to-date awareness of current best practices in Autism education.
  • Manage challenging behaviours effectively, adhering to school policies.
  • Contribute to ongoing curriculum development for pupils with SEND.
  • Collaborate effectively with colleagues and stakeholders, reporting on student achievement.

Experience: 1+ year relevant teaching experience.

Essential Qualifications & Knowledge
  • PGCE, Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), or equivalent teaching qualification.
  • Demonstrable ability to teach Science (Combined or Single Sciences) to GCSE.
  • Strong working knowledge of students with complex needs and SEND.
  • In-depth understanding and experience of Autism and associated co-morbid conditions, and their impact on learning.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the National Curriculum framework.
