About this key role

London Ability is recruiting on behalf of a professional with a visual impairment who requires administrative and workplace support in their role as a Benefits Officer within a large public sector organisation.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a positive difference, providing practical and administrative support to help our customer effectively undertake their duties at work.

You will assist with a range of tasks including reading documents and data, managing emails and diaries, proofreading, writing correspondence, and accompanying the customer to other parts of the council where required.

Key duties include:

• Reading documents using a document imaging system and summarising key information
• Reading data from computer systems to calculate Housing Benefit and Council Tax Reduction
• Reading and writing letters and emails to support decision making
• Managing and organising files as required
• Taking dictation and checking documents for accuracy
• Managing diaries and appointments
• Printing, photocopying, and other general administrative tasks
• Assisting and accompanying the Benefits Officer within council buildings.

What we’re looking for

• GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)
• At least 2 years’ administrative experience
• Confident reader, comfortable handling information and data
• Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
• Minimum 1 years’ experience as a support worker (or in a similar supportive role)
• Strong organisation skills, accuracy and attention to detail.

Desirable:

• Experience supporting someone with a visual impairment or disability in a workplace setting
• Understanding of reasonable adjustments and inclusive working practices

Safeguarding:

Because this role involves handling sensitive information, an Enhanced DBS check will be required before starting.
