Summary
A personal assistant is required for a fourteen-year-old boy with autism who lives near Helston.
He is a warm and caring young person—polite, friendly, and engaging. He has a heart condition, visual impairment, and hearing impairment, and requires supervision to ensure his safety both at home and in the community.
The ideal candidate will be patient and understanding, as he needs time to build trust with new people. Once trust is established, he becomes comfortable and communicative. He requires support with social communication and is very particular about cleanliness.
The role involves helping him build independence and learn life skills such as shopping and handling money.
This is a rewarding opportunity to support a young person in growing and achieving greater independence, while making a positive impact on their life.
Rate of pay: Starting at £13.00 per hour, with potential for increase based on skills and experience.
Hours: 5 hours per week, with flexible scheduling to suit the candidate’s availability.
Requirements: Some knowledge or personal experience of working with young people with special educational needs is essential.
The successful applicant will be employed under a private arrangement with the family, and not be employed or carry out work for Cornwall Council.
