BEAR Scotland is a leading provider of road maintenance and management services, proudly responsible for the upkeep and enhancement of the country’s vital trunk road network — including bridges and key infrastructure — across some of the most scenic and challenging terrain in the UK.
Since 2000 we have been involved in five generations of Transport Scotland Trunk Road Operating Company contracts covering various areas of Scotland and are presently responsible for approximately 60% of Scotland’s trunk road network. This includes the North West and South East Scottish Trunk Road Units & M80 DBFO and A92 DBFO.
We have a vacancy for a Graduate Health & Safety Technician to join our existing team. This role is key to the ongoing development and promotion of a proactive safety culture across our business. The Health, Safety Technician will undertake continuous improvement supporting BEAR Scotland’s management system certification. While you will be primarily office based, you will undertake site and depot visits / inspections.
Roles & Responsibilities:
To support a close working relationship between all business processes, to remain focused on continual improvement and best practice through proactive involvement with all managers and employees.
Analysis of business data to identify opportunities for improvement
Development of documentation, including Toolbox Talks, Method Statements, Risk Assessments, and Behavioural Safety developments
Maintaining and development of documentation ensuring compliance for all BEAR Scotland premises
Audit process documentation.
Delivery and development of inductions and presentations.
Assist with Internal Audits, including Evaluation of Compliance
Assist with the preparation of certification and tender documentation.
Provide accident investigation support.
Inductions for Supply Chain / Clients
Production of ‘Management System Alerts’
Preparation and co-ordination of HSE Committee
Participate in document reviews and updates
Development of processes and systems to provide an effective Health & Safety system maintaining certification to ISO 45001
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
A Full Valid Driving Licence is required for this role
Relevant Health & Safety Qualification, or working towards
Detailed knowledge of Chapter 8 / Traffic Management (Desirable)
Road maintenance experience (Desirable)
Internal Auditor qualification
Conversant with the requirements of ISO 9001:2015, ISO 14001:2015, ISO 45001:2018 and National Highway Sector Schemes
Experience of working to tight deadlines.
Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office packages
