The Role: Trainee Chef

As a Trainee Chef, you’ll support our catering team in preparing and serving meals for guests and staff. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to start or develop a career in catering and hospitality, gaining hands-on experience in a busy professional kitchen environment.

You’ll work closely with our Head Chef and the wider JCA catering team to ensure every meal is prepared safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

Career Progression: The Craft Works Pathway

As a Trainee Chef, you’ll have a clear development route to becoming a chef through Wilson Vale’s Craft Works pathway an exciting training and mentoring program designed to grow culinary talent.

You’ll receive ongoing support and training from experienced chefs, gaining the knowledge and confidence needed to progress into a Chef position at Condover Hall or within the wider Wilson Vale and JCA network.

Key Responsibilities:

Food Preparation & Service

Assist in the preparation and cooking of meals in accordance with menu plans and dietary requirements.
Support in the setup and smooth running of meal services for guests and staff.
Maintain portion control and presentation standards across all dishes served.
Kitchen Hygiene & Safety

Ensure all kitchen areas, utensils, and equipment are kept clean and hygienic.
Follow all food hygiene, allergen, and safety procedures as outlined in training.
Assist in the correct storage, rotation, and labelling of food items.
Teamwork & Learning

Work alongside the kitchen team to ensure smooth service and efficient operations.
Take part in on-the-job training to build your culinary skills and knowledge.
Contribute to a positive team atmosphere with a proactive and supportive attitude.
Customer Experience

Help deliver a high standard of catering that enhances the overall guest experience.
Be friendly and approachable when interacting with guests and colleagues.
Assist with any special dietary or allergy requests under the supervision of the Head Chef.
Essential Skills & Experience

Enthusiasm for food preparation and catering.
Strong work ethic and willingness to learn new skills.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Basic understanding of food hygiene (training provided).
Punctual, reliable, and able to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
