Summary
AK Teaching are looking to appoint committed, passionate and resilient Special Needs Teaching Assistants to support children and young people across Ashington.
We are an education specialist supply agency with long standing partnerships across Northumberland.
This is a full time position - 08:30 - 15:30 Monday - Friday.
If you are unable to commit to these hours as a minimum - please do not apply.
We have short term, long term and temp to perm opportunities available. Roles are available in both primary and secondary settings - we do prefer you are open to the age group you work with.
What the role will involve
- Supporting pupils with a range of special educational needs (SEMH / ASD / MLD / PMLD) on a 1:1 basis and small group basis
- Using individual EHCP targets to scaffold learning & regulate emotional / behavioural responses
- Working alongside class teachers, SENCOs and external professionals
- Supporting with communication development and functional skills
- Using de-escalation, calm communication, structure, consistency and routine within the school's behaviour framework
- Supporting pupils through structured interventions
- Ensuring safeguarding is upheld at all times
- Providing clear feedback to the class teacher and agency consultant daily
- Sometimes supporting with personal care dependent on setting/need
Requirements
- Enhanced DBS already on the Update Service, or willingness to apply & pay for one through AK Teaching
- Professional, reliable and resilient
- MUST be able to commit to the hours of 08:30 - 15:30
- Level 2 (or above) Supporting Teaching & Learning / Childcare qualification preferred
- Prior school based experience highly desirable
- Good communication + confidence working with SEN
- Able to follow direction but also show initiative when needed
