Roles that require PVG Membership
Please note that with effect from 1 April 2023, where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above. (Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 11 and above (currently £31,505 per annum / £17.31 per hour)
The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members, or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee’s first FULL month’s salary payment.
Job purpose
* Lead and manage colleagues to ensure effective support strategies are in place for all learners. * Promote and model inclusive practices, aligned with national frameworks such as Curriculum for Excellence and Getting it Right for Every Child (GIRFEC). * Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of support interventions, ensuring compliance with legislation and policy on additional support needs. * Collaborate with pupils, parents/carers, staff, and external agencies to foster a nurturing and equitable learning environment. * Maintain GTCS registration and uphold the professional values of integrity, trust, and respect, while engaging in career-long professional learning.
The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:
Appropriate teaching qualification
Full GTC (Scotland) Registration in relevant subject.
PVG Membership for Regulated Work with Children and/or Protected Adults or willingness to obtain prior to a formal offer of employment being made.
The postholder is able to demonstrate:
- Strategic leadership in planning, implementing, and evaluating inclusive support for learners with additional support needs
- Curriculum development expertise, particularly in adapting and differentiating learning experiences to meet diverse needs
- Knowledge of legislation and policy, including the Additional Support for Learning Act, GIRFEC, and equality legislation
- Effective team management, including mentoring and supporting staff in inclusive practices and professional learning
- Data-informed decision making, using assessment and tracking data to inform interventions and monitor progress
- Collaborative working, engaging with stakeholders to support learner wellbeing and achievement
