Summary

At Sovereign Network Group (SNG), we believe everyone deserves a great place to live. We're one of the UK's leading housing associations, managing more than 84,000 homes and driving investment in new developments, sustainable housing, and community-focused programmes.

The Role

As a Commercial Officer, you'll support the successful financial and contractual delivery of responsive maintenance, retrofit, and planned works programmes. This varied role bridges operational delivery and strategic commercial objectives, ensuring our projects achieve best value and remain contractually compliant.

Key Responsibilities

Monitor and reconcile budgets, committed spend, and forecasts across multiple programmes.
Support procurement activities including tender documentation, evaluation, and compliance with PCR 2015.
Administer mid-level construction contracts (e.g. NEC, JCT) — managing variations, payments, and performance tracking.
Produce accurate financial and commercial reports to support decision-making and funding submissions.
Identify risks and propose mitigations around cost, performance, and compliance.
Collaborate with stakeholders to resolve issues, drive efficiencies, and ensure best value outcomes.
Contribute to process improvements and lessons learned within the Commercials function.

What We're Looking For:

Proven experience in a commercial, procurement, or cost management role within construction, housing, or public sector environments.
Working knowledge of construction contracts (NEC, JCT) and procurement governance.
Strong analytical, numerical, and reporting skills with excellent attention to detail.
Confident using Microsoft Excel and financial tracking tools.
Effective communicator able to engage with contractors, consultants, and internal teams.

Desirable:

Degree or part-qualification in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or similar.
Experience working on retrofit, decarbonisation, or publicly funded housing programmes (e.g. SHDF).
Knowledge of procurement systems such as Proactis, Delta, or Asite.
Membership or progression towards RICS, CIPS, or CIOB accreditation.

What we can offer you:

Flexible and hybrid working options
25 days holiday + bank holidays (increasing up to 30 days)
Holiday trading scheme (buy/sell)
Generous pension scheme — up to 12% matched
Life cover from day one
Access to retail vouchers through our Recognition Scheme
Discounts on gyms, wellbeing packages, and more

If you're commercially minded, detail-driven, and passionate about making a difference in housing and sustainability, we'd love to hear from you.
