1:1 Teaching Assistant

Want hands-on classroom experience before teacher training?

Support one Year 1 pupil every day and see clear progress.

*** 1:1 Teaching Assistant
*** Immediate start until July 2026
*** £80 - £100 per day
*** ‘Good’ primary school, Wolverhampton
*** 1:1 support for a child in Year 1

Role snapshot:
Work alongside the class teacher to provide steady, structured 1:1 support. Break tasks into simple steps. Use visual prompts and clear routines so transitions feel predictable. Run short practice activities in early phonics, handwriting and number. Keep brief notes on progress and agree next actions each week.

About you:
Calm, organised and clear in your communication. You follow guidance, spot triggers early and adapt without fuss. You build trust quickly and help the pupil move towards independence.

Requirements

- Degree – A 2:2 or above in any subject.
- Communication – Strong written and spoken English.
- Enhanced DBS – Held already or willingness to obtain.
- Desire to work in education/with children – Real interest in KS1 learning and wellbeing.
- Experience working with children – Any relevant experience (nursery, mentoring, tutoring, volunteering) is desirable but not essential.

The School:
This ‘Good’ two-form entry Wolverhampton primary serves a diverse community and runs simple, consistent routines from arrival to home time. Year 1 follows a clear phonics programme, daily handwriting and guided reading, plus short number fluency sessions. Classrooms are well resourced with labelled areas for fine-motor work, role play and small world, and outdoor learning is timetabled. Staff plan together and share ready-made activity cards, model examples and observation templates, so you are not rebuilding resources. Inclusion is embedded. The SEN team runs plan–do–review cycles, provides visual supports and swift access to regulation spaces, and offers quick coaching on strategies that work. New colleagues receive a structured induction, weekly bite-size CPD and short coaching drop-ins with practical next steps, giving you the conditions to show impact quickly and prepare for
ITT.

Email your CV and include availability and DBS status. Add two referees if you can. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to a brief call and an in-school observation. Early applications are encouraged, as the school may appoint before the closing date.

Due to the volume of applications, only shortlisted candidates will be contacted.
