Renfrewshire Council is seeking a dynamic and experience Senior Manager to lead and manage operational teams within Children's and Justice Social Work Services, including responsibilities for Child and Public Protection. This is an operational leadership role with a strong focus on delivering high-quality services to vulnerable children and adults, driving continuous improvement, and ensuring effective use of resources.
You will play a key role in shaping the future of social work services across Renfrewshire, working collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to deliver outcomes that make a real difference in people's lives.
As part of Renfrewshire's Children's Services Senior Management Team, the Senior Manager will act as External Manager to a range of residential and support services for care-experienced children and young people. This includes oversight of four residential children's houses, a supported accommodation service, and the Throughcare, Aftercare, and Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) teams. Reporting directly to the Children's Services Manager, the postholder will contribute to strategic leadership, ensure high standards of care and compliance, and support continuous service development.
To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of children and families / justice social work services in a local authority setting, alongside a working knowledge of legislation and best practices as it impacts on social work practice. You will also possess analytical skills, to allow the exploration, evaluation and interpretation of complex situations.
You must have communication and leadership skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports on complex issues and influence senior stakeholders effectively. Your strategic thinking will be underpinned by risk management and decision-making capabilities, enabling you to operate confidently within financial, legal, and ethical frameworks. A proven ability to build positive relationships, lead teams, and drive service excellence is essential.
We are seeking a highly qualified and experienced professional with a degree/diploma in Social Work (DipSW or equivalent) and demonstrate a commitment to ongoing professional development. You must be registered with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) and able to meet the requirements of PVG Disclosure.
You will bring experience of senior leadership within a professional Social Work/Social Care environment, with experience of formulating and implementing strategic plans, improving services, and management budgets effectively. You must have a proven record of effective partnership working across the public sector and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities within children and families and justice social work.
To succeed in this role, you will need leadership, communication, and analytical skills, with the ability to influence, negotiate, and make sound decisions. You should be computer literate and able to use technology to support service delivery and improvement.
Personally, you will demonstrate high ethical standards, professional integrity, and have the ability to motivate teams, build strong relationships, and work effectively under pressure. A commitment to equality, diversity, and continuous improvement is essential.
It is desirable but not essential you will also hold a post qualifying qualification in management or leadership, demonstrating your readiness to lead in a complex and evolving environment as is experience in change management, cultural transformation, and policy development.
