Summary
Are you comfortable speaking to a range of different people, with a passion for increasing access to museum objects and their stories?
About us
The Science & Innovation Park (SIP) is a 545-acre site which plays a vital role in the Science Museum Group's collection and houses everything from microscope slides to railway carriages. Over 400,000 objects and 1.5m items in our Library and Archives are now accessible to the public.
About the role
To support this work, we are looking for enthusiastic individuals to join the team who facilitate access to SMG's astonishing collection of objects housed at SIP. As Tour Host & Welcomer, you will provide inspiring tours for a range of audiences, including curators, researchers, enthusiasts - adults, families and school groups.
As Tour Host you will be delivering our behind-the-scenes tours to the general public in an enthusiastic, timely manner. Welcomers will be based in the Welcome Building to greet the guests to site, check tickets, and convoy the group down to Hawking Building.
Our tours will be running 7 days a week: twice in the evening during the week, and four times a day on Saturdays and Sundays. We are seeking up to 15 Tour Host & Welcomers on a fixed term contract for 12 months, between 10-15 hours pw.
Tours will begin on 2 March 2026. The role will begin in mid-January to accommodate a 6-week training and induction period.
About you
Joining us, you will be able to be welcoming, warm and friendly when engaging with the visitors to SIP. You'll be enthusiastic, with an ability to be self-motivated and flexible, with experience of working in a team. You'll receive full training to do the role, but a confidence and ability to communicate with groups of people, leading tours and/or delivering talks will be essential.
Please note - this role requires a full UK Driving Licence as a small amount of driving across the site will be required.
Don't feel you meet all the criteria? We welcome you to apply even if your experience doesn't match directly. With your transferable skills, you could be the right candidate for this, or other opportunities that we have.
