About the RoleA large public sector client in the West Midlands is seeking a highly motivated and experienced individual to join its friendly and dynamic Democratic Services Team. This is an exciting time for the service, with an ambitious change programme underway to review and modernise constitutional arrangements.
As a Democratic Services Officer, you will play a pivotal role in supporting elected members and officers to ensure effective and efficient decision-making processes. You will be joining a fast-paced environment for a six-month period, contributing to the delivery of high-quality democratic services.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive support for committee meetings, including agenda preparation, minute-taking, and follow-up actions.
  • Support and/or lead scrutiny bodies, helping elected members identify areas for improvement and drive policy change.
  • Ensure compliance with legislative frameworks governing local authority decision-making.
  • Build strong working relationships with elected members and officers across all levels of the organisation.
  • Contribute to the delivery of strategic plans by enhancing transparency, accountability, and community trust.

About YouYou will bring:

  • A solid understanding of local government operations and relevant legislation.
  • Extensive experience in committee administration and democratic services.
  • Proven ability to work with elected members and senior officers.
  • Experience in supporting or leading scrutiny functions.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills.
  • Political awareness and a keen eye for detail.
  • A resilient, flexible, and proactive approach to work.
