Summary
We are seeking a talented and experienced Second Chef to join our culinary team in Loughborough, United Kingdom. As the Second Chef, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Head Chef in managing kitchen operations, creating innovative menus, and maintaining high standards of food quality and presentation.
- Assist the Head Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and staff management
- Develop and execute new menu items in collaboration with the culinary team
- Ensure compliance with food safety regulations and maintain kitchen hygiene standards
- Manage inventory, place orders, and control food costs
- Train and mentor junior kitchen staff to improve their skills and efficiency
- Prepare and cook high-quality dishes for service
- Assist in menu planning and recipe development
- Step in for the Head Chef when necessary
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of kitchen processes and procedures
- Collaborate with front-of-house staff to ensure smooth service and customer satisfaction
Qualifications
- Culinary degree or diploma from a recognized institution
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a professional kitchen, preferably in a high-volume restaurant or hotel setting
- Proven experience in a leadership role within a kitchen environment
- Strong culinary skills and expertise in various cooking techniques and cuisines
- Excellent knowledge of food safety practices and current health and hygiene regulations
- Valid food safety certification
- Proficiency in menu planning, recipe development, and food presentation
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent communication and team leadership abilities
- Creativity and passion for culinary innovation
- Physical stamina to work long hours in a fast-paced kitchen environment
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
- Knowledge of dietary restrictions and ability to accommodate special meal requests
- Proficiency in kitchen management software and inventory systems is a plus
