Summary

We are a leading university on the south coast and have a great opportunity for an experienced, hands-on Employee Relations Adviser to join our team.

Our HR environment is all you would expect from a large, progressive employer: a friendly, supportive team; excellent salary, hybrid working, on-site parking and modern, refurbished offices (along with a terrific range of lifestyle savings in hundreds of high street vendors). We offer a lot.

You will have experience of successfully managing a wide variety of casework and experience of applying HR practice and policy in a large, complex organisation. A hands-on role taking ownership of the range of cases you might expect, including but not limited to attendance management and health, grievance, discipline and performance management. Of course, you will have built in resilience and be willing to lead on the occasional project as we continuously improve our service but of equal importance you will need to be comfortable liaising with our senior managers and be adept at influencing and coaching and quickly establishing well-earned credibility.

Whilst there is a need to be in Portsmouth a few days a week, hybrid working is available for this role. Fractional contracts from 20 hours per week will be considered and can be discussed at interview.

The interviews are currently anticipated to be held on 05 December 2025. Interviews will include a couple of short written exercises. Unfortunately, we will not be able to offer alternative dates.

We hope this position is of interest. When applying, please make sure that along with your CV you include a covering letter outlining how you see yourself aligning with the University and the role.

If you would like to discuss the role informally, please contact Jon Davis, Employee

Relations Team Leader via email Jonathan.Davis@port.ac.uk to arrange a call.
