The role: You will lead on all aspects of Data Protection and Information Governance across the organisation, ensuring compliance with the UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and related legislation. The role will involve developing, implementing, and maintaining a robust corporate Information Governance framework and providing expert advice to senior management and elected members.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee and manage the organisation’s Information Governance strategy and associated policies.
Provide specialist advice and guidance on all aspects of data protection and information management.
Lead on compliance with UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and PECR.
Manage corporate data protection programmes, including audits, DPIAs and training.
Liaise with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) where appropriate.
Support the effective management of information risk and data breaches.
Deliver training and awareness programmes to promote a culture of good information governance.
Contribute to corporate projects and transformation initiatives ensuring data protection is embedded.
What the client is looking for:
Substantial experience working at a senior level on information governance and data protection issues.
In-depth knowledge of GDPR, UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018 and PECR.
Proven ability to develop and deliver Information Governance strategies.
Experience in managing and implementing data protection programmes within large public sector or similar organisations.
Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to advise senior management and elected members.
Degree-level qualification and a relevant professional data protection certification (ISEB/BCS or equivalent).
Desirable:
Experience managing or supporting information security initiatives.
Awareness of IT systems, technology trends and their implications for information governance.
Understanding of equality, diversity and inclusion principles.
Commitment to ongoing professional development (CPD).
