Your new company
Hays Recruitment are proud to be supporting a single-form entry primary school in Ellesmere Port as they require someone to offer 1:1 SEN support across KS1. This is an extremely inclusive and supportive school that is looking for an individual with specific SEN experience within a SEND school or residential childcare setting. If you are looking to transition from a SEND school or residential care background, this could be the perfect opportunity for you. This is a full-time temporary contract consisting of 32.5 hours per week, starting in January 2026 and lasting until the end of the academic year.

Your new role
As a teaching assistant within this school, you will be joining an extremely supportive, welcoming and inclusive KS1 team. You will play a key role in the delivery of comprehensive 1:1 SEN support, ensuring full inclusivity and that all pupils reach their full academic potential. You will be supporting a select group of pupils that all have individual EHCP's with varying diagnoses that consist of PMLD, ASD and non-verbal. Your duties will include but may not be limited to:

  • Makaton, PECS and other visual aids to communicate
  • Speech and language interventions
  • Personal care
  • Positive behaviour support; sensory play/sensory therapy, sensory rooms, bucket therapy, etc
  • Interventions and boosters
  • Work in collaboration with external professionals, including SALT and physiotherapists


What you'll need to succeed
To be considered in your application, you must have full "Right to Work" in the UK, relevant referenceable experience supporting children and young people with complex needs, and:

  • Experience supporting ASD, PMLD and non-verbal is advantageous
  • Experience using Makaton and/or PECs
  • The ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team as well as individually
  • Be able to commit to a long-term full-time contract
