Summary

Civil Society and Youth Role (1 available):

This is an exciting role, offering the opportunity to work in a busy, high profile team on a growing area of interest to this government. The Dormant Assets Scheme is a unique partnership between government and industry, enabling money from dormant financial products to be unlocked and used for good causes across the UK, while protecting the consumer’s ability to reclaim their asset at any time. DCMS’s Dormant Assets team leads on this policy area jointly with HM Treasury. Our work centres on three key objectives: (1) maximising the level of participation in the Scheme from eligible firms; (2) ensuring transparency and accountability in the allocation of dormant assets funds; and (3) identifying opportunities for dormant assets funding to address key policy priorities. This is a critical moment for the Scheme, as new eligible sectors are soon to open to participants, creating potential for hundreds of millions more to be unlocked for good causes.

Key responsibilities for this post holder will likely include:

  • Building and managing strong, effective relationships inside and out of government, including with senior financial services stakeholders, Ministers and senior officials
  • Drafting a range of high-quality written work at pace, including correspondence and submissions for ministers on wide-ranging topic areas
  • Supporting work to develop and implement pivotal policy proposals to improve the efficiency and scale of the Scheme
  • Working closely with partners, including HM Treasury and industry stakeholders, to maximise the flow of funding to good causes and the impact it delivers
  • Supporting and/or leading an additional workstream in addition to the core role, to help to meet DCMS corporate objectives

We expect the successful candidate to show flexibility depending on any changing priorities in the team. The post holder will need to be confident working in ambiguous and changing environments.

Sports and Gambling (2 roles available):

This is an exciting opportunity to work in the DCMS Grassroots Sport Team, the leading team for sport diversity and inclusion and participation, implementing national policy that addresses critical challenges and unlocks new opportunities within the sporting landscape.

The postholder will join a dynamic and fast-paced team, where the flexibility to take on different responsibilities at different times, as determined by evolving ministerial and strategic priorities, will be standard, and offers an exciting opportunity to make a tangible difference.

We have 2 vacancies available in our Sports and Gambling directorate. The successful candidates will be working on either of the following workstreams:

Role 1: implementation of key policy and strategy, you will be at the forefront of driving meaningful change, working to ensure that sport is accessible, equitable, and well-governed for everyone, regardless of background or ability. This role demands a strategic thinker with a deep understanding of policy development, excellent analytical skills, and a proven ability to engage with a diverse range of stakeholders to drive positive change.

Role 2: This role is focused on the sponsorship of Sport England, one of DCMS’ biggest arm’s length bodies, in receipt of over £250m per year from government. The postholder is likely to focus on: working with Sport England on key projects related to policy, governance or analysis; supporting governance of the DCMS and Sport England relationship; and supporting ministers through drafting briefings for visits, responses to correspondence and parliamentary questions.
