Summary

1. The key focus of the role is building relationships with young people and involving young people in the shaping, design, planning and delivery of Youth work activities in Chard.
2. Working as an effective team member with the youth worker in the delivery of youth work provision activities that are fun, educative and support personal and social development
3. Support the youth worker in delivering outreach work in the community as and when required
4. The regular weekly centre based sessions will take place on a Wednesday, Thursday and Friday evening.
5. Building effective relationships with young people aged 8 -17 years providing social and personal development opportunities which add value to their formal education and their other experiences.
6. Actively Listening to young people, supporting young people in informed decision making, enabling young people to participate in decision making.
7. Assist in maintaining appropriate records including attendance forms, session monitoring forms, Parental consent forms, incident/accident/Safeguarding forms and contributing to 3 written reports per year reporting on young people’s attendance, achievements, positive outcomes progress and development
8. Support young helpers during the face to face sessions ensuring they have opportunity to develop skills and confidence
9. Assist the youth worker in ensuring the youth work sessions are fun, safe, welcoming, planned and well resourced providing activities that young people enjoy.
10. To implement Safer Working Practice
11. Adhere to and implement delivery of youth work in accordance with a consistent set of policies and procedures that meet statutory requirements and best practice guidance, including Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Data Protection.

12. To attend Community Youth Project Team meetings, currently via Zoom and monthly supervision with Project manager.
13. To attend induction meetings with the project manager and attend Qualified First Aid training ( In person) and Safeguarding level 2 training and Food hygiene and safety level 2 ( Online) within first two months of employment

The Community Youth Project is an independent Charitable Incorporated Organisation which provides youth work services to communities within South Somerset. The organisation is run by a voluntary group of Trustees and a Management Group and employees are supported by a paid part time Project Manager.
The Youth Support Worker will be line managed by the Community Youth Project manager.
As a whole, the Community Youth project aims to increase the quality and choice of opportunities for young people across their communities.

To achieve this, the Youth Support Worker will work closely with the Youth Worker, Community Youth Project manager and delivery community Management Committee.
Personal Development
The post holder is expected to have a commitment to on-going personal development for current and future role requirements and also to better assist the determination of the needs of young people. This includes regular supervision sessions, an annual appraisal and uptake of in-service training opportunities.

Problem Solving and Decision Making
The post holder will be expected to demonstrate compliance in the implementation of CYP policies and procedures. The post holder will be expected to deliver in relation to the annual Service level agreement.
The post requires a creative approach to the development and delivery of opportunities for young people, including determining the appropriate mechanisms or procedures to facilitate their successful delivery in a way that will engage young people in the discussion, issue or initiative.

Terms and Conditions
The rate of pay is £12.21per hour.
We are ideally aiming to fill the post with two postholder working 9 hours per week however we are open to filling the post on a flexible basis depending on the availability of suitable candidates: For example recruiting three employees each employee working 6 hours per week
The post is subject to satisfactory medical clearance and requires an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check and satisfactory completion of a six-month probationary period.
The work will involve evening and weekend commitments and the post holder is required to deliver a regular series of evening sessions.
The annual leave entitlement is 5.6 weeks (pro-rata).
An appropriate travel allowance will be paid, for legitimate travel other than home to work.
