Summary

Clinical Responsibilities 1. To work closely with the senior nurse and other members of the sexual health teamto pro-actively facilitate development of sexual health nursing within the SexualHealth Service. 2. To provide specialist holistic nursing care working in nurse-led clinics as required. 3. To provide effective care provision through partnership working, provision ofappropriate, information, advice, and support to patients to empower them to makeinformed choices about their treatment and care and lifestyle choices. 4. To use evidence-based nursing interventions which are timely and appropriate. 5. To issue / administer all forms of contraception and treatment for SexuallyTransmitted Infections (STI) using Patient Group Directions (PGDs) in accordance withHSC and national guidance. 6. To develop skills to be responsible for the promotion, development, evaluation andrunning of services for young people in partnership with appropriate agencies, youngpeople, and communities (in reach and outreach settings). 7. To undertake screening/testing for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) includingvenepuncture and point of care testing skills and to manage results. 8. To undertake genital examinations and perform testing, obtain swabs and specimensas appropriate and to manage results. 9. To employ effective partner notification strategies to ensure contact attendance andtreatment. 10. To actively support result and recall systems ensuring that results are followed up in atimely and appropriate manner. 11. To follow safeguarding procedures, liaising with service safeguarding leads andmanaging own referrals/follow-up. 12. To work in partnership with the Harmful Sexual Behaviours (HSB) agencies to supportthe delivery of care for young people displaying complex behaviours by providing key advice, support and guidance. 13. To work in situations that require judgement involving complex facts or situations thatrequire the analysis, interpretation, and comparison of a range of options, forexample, assessing Fraser competence to consent to treatment in patients under 16years. 14. To undertake pregnancy testing and support clients with pregnancy choices andsubsequent relevant internal / external client support services and referralmechanisms. 15. To undertake brief interventions opportunistically or planned during clientconsultations in accordance with the public health agenda. 16. To develop and maintain robust systems of data recording. To maintain accurate andlegible records of work and provide necessary reports and statistics as required. Partnership With Service Users 1. To work closely with the Bailiwicks Youth Forum, School Councils and other youthgroups, to develop a service that meets the needs of the service user. 2. To work with Public Health, local statutory, private and voluntary providers and usersto develop and promote practice that is accessible and responsive to all sections ofthe school and community, ensuring that services are targeted to the most vulnerablegroups and individuals to support social inclusion. Managerial 1. To support the Senior Nurse/Clinic Lead in managing the operational function of theservice. 2. To provide day to day supervision and co-ordination of the nursing support teams andthe administration and clerical team when appropriate. Education and Training 1. To provide mentorship for students and colleagues, actively contributing to creatingexcellent learning environments. 2. To participate in teaching programmes in house. 3. To provide specialist advice/information and support to professional colleagues inPrimary Care, Acute Services, and the Third Sector. Research and Professional Development 1. To have a commitment to personal professional development in their specialist field. 2. To participate in reviewing practice, setting standards and conducting audits. 3. To critically appraise and summarise outcomes of relevant research/audit and applyfindings to promote best practice. 4. To work with colleagues to implement the action plans stipulated by nationalstrategies. 5. To participate in clinical supervision and support unqualified colleagues in accessingregular clinical supervision.
