Summary

Role Overview - What is it?

The People Assistant delivers first-line HR support and manages a wide range of people administration. They act as a key contact point for employees and managers, ensuring accurate, timely, and people-centred processes. With a slightly more skilled remit, this role bridges day-to-day HR operations and advisory work, freeing up People Advisors for complex case management.

The People Assistant ensures that HR services are accessible, accurate, and people-focused. Their role strengthens employee experience from induction through to exit, ensures compliance and efficiency in ER case handling, and underpins a professional, responsive People function.


Main Duties - What needs to be done?

  • Employee Lifecycle - Prepare contracts, offer letters, changes to terms, probation reviews, leaver documentation, and exit interviews.
  • Induction & Onboarding - Coordinate induction schedules, issue welcome packs, track completion of induction checklists and mandatory training.
  • Casework Administration - Schedule meetings/hearings, prepare packs, take notes, and track outcomes for ER cases.
  • Employee Queries - Provide first-line support for employees and managers, escalating where necessary.
  • HR Communications - Maintain HR intranet pages, staff bulletins, and templates; support internal HR comms and engagement updates.
  • Data & Reporting - Run and quality-check routine HR reports (headcount, turnover, absence); support People Data & Insights Analyst with data accuracy.
  • Project Support - Provide admin support for people-led initiatives (trauma-informed practice, wellbeing campaigns, B Corp activities).

Key Skills & Attributes

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills with attention to detail.
  • Confident in dealing with people queries and providing clear information.
  • Skilled in note-taking, drafting, and preparing HR documentation.
  • Strong IT skills (HRIS, MS Office, Excel).
  • Ability to prioritise and balance multiple deadlines.
