Summary

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a Principal Operations Manager covering our five key establishments in Wales, HMP Berwyn, HMP Cardiff, HMP Swansea, HMP Usk and HMP Prescoed.

The standard hours of work are 39 hours per week, Monday – Friday.

At Amey, we’re supporting our justice client, His Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service (HMPPS) by providing them with safe, clean and efficient prisons. By using our facilities management expertise, we help keep 60 secure premises across England and Wales running smoothly.

The Principal Operations Manager is part of a team responsible for the operational and strategic management of multiple sites within the FM Prisons Contract. You’ll play a pivotal role in shaping business plans, driving service excellence, and leading high-performing teams to deliver safe, compliant, and customer-focused facilities management across a portfolio of establishments.

What you will do:

Develop and implement business plans for your area, ensuring delivery of agreed revenue, margin, and cash flow targets.
Lead, motivate, and support Site Managers across 5–6 establishments, ensuring operational service meets contractual KPIs and SLAs.
Drive continuous improvement, sharing best practice and identifying opportunities to maximise efficiency, revenue, and margin.
Ensure statutory compliance, manage supply chain relationships, and support customer relationship management with local and regional clients.
Conduct regular site visits, performance reviews, and team briefings, ensuring all sites are safe, compliant, and resourced to deliver excellence.

What you will bring:

Resilient, customer-centric leader with proven ability to manage, develop, and motivate teams.
Strong commercial acumen, with experience managing P&L, budgets, and business plans.
Recognised and relevant technical or FM qualification (e.g., IOSH Managing Safely, IWFM) – required or desirable.
Demonstrable experience in multi-site facilities management, ideally within a hard FM or custodial environment.
Excellent communication, relationship management, and influencing skills, with a track record of delivering operational improvements and managing complex client requirements.
