Description
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Environmental Health Officer (Private Sector Housing Reactive) WCR 3 to join our team. In this pivotal role, you will focus on enforcing housing legislation to ensure that residential properties are safe, healthy, and compliant with current regulations. Your expertise will be crucial in addressing and mitigating public health risks associated with private sector housing. You will work closely with property owners, tenants, and other stakeholders to investigate complaints, assess living conditions, and implement appropriate actions. This position requires a strong understanding of environmental health legislation, effective communication skills, and the ability to work independently as well as part of a team. As an Environmental Health Officer, you will play a significant role in promoting community well-being by ensuring that housing standards are maintained and that the needs of the public are met. Your proactive approach in identifying hazards and recommending solutions will be essential to our mission. Responsibilities
Conduct inspections of private sector housing to assess compliance with health and safety regulations.
Investigate complaints related to housing conditions and respond to tenant concerns in a timely manner.
Prepare reports on inspection findings and recommend actions to the relevant parties.
Collaborate with landlords and property owners to ensure necessary improvements are made to comply with regulations.
Monitor and enforce compliance with relevant health and safety legislation, including assessments of risks.
Provide professional advice and guidance to landlords, agents, and tenants on their rights and responsibilities.
Participate in community outreach programs to promote awareness of housing standards and rights.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
Certification or registration as an Environmental Health Officer is preferred.
Proven experience in a similar role, preferably in private sector housing.
Strong knowledge of housing regulations and environmental health legislation.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to effectively engage with various stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines under pressure.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to assess situations and determine appropriate actions.
