Summary
A Vacancy at Northumbria Healthcare - NHCT Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.
The post-holder will provide a range of Biomedical Scientist duties within the Cellular Pathology Dept. Their work pattern will involve rotation between the Specimen Reception/Dissection, Main Lab, Non-Gynae Cytology, and Immunocytochemistry laboratories.
The Cellular Pathology Dept is a well-performing laboratory and has a well-established digital pathology workflow. The lab is in the midst of a period of rapid development of IT systems to further improve performance, streamline workflows, and hit our paperless laboratory target.
Annex 20 This post falls within the provisions of Agenda for Change Development of Professional Roles, whereby upon completion of an agreed set of competencies you may move onto the next pay band without the need for an application for a post at a higher level.

The post holder will practice as a specialist registered Biomedical Scientist working effectively as part of a team providing histopathology, cytopathology and autopsy clinical technical services to Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and general practitioners.
They will perform a range of scientific investigations and procedures to primarily assist in the differential diagnosis of cancer and other tissue related disease.
They will provide technical support to pathologists, clinicians and other staff to provide an efficient diagnostic service.
They will participate in the supervision, training and development of trainee biomedical scientists and medical laboratory assistants.
We manage three major locality hospitals at North Tyneside, Wansbeck and Hexham, plus a number of smaller community hospitals and clinics from Tynemouth to Berwick on Tweed, in addition to our state-of-the-art Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital, the first of its kind in England. We also care for people in their homes and provide services from facilities in local communities such as health centres. We give people greater choice and control over their care to help them to live independently at home and avoid hospital admission where appropriate. High quality patient care is at the heart of everything we do and we strive to ensure every single patient and service user has an exceptional experience with us. We have one of the most extensive patient experience programmes of any trust in England.
Typical duties include:
Specimen Receipt and booking-in.
Triage of specimens in the Reception and Dissection areas.
Developing practice for "low level" BMS dissection
Routine Histopathology lab duties to include embedding, microtomy, staining, and QC functions.
Running the Immunocytochemistry and Cytology laboratories on a day to day basis.
