We are seeking a skilled and versatile Fabric Engineer / Handy Person to join our mobile facilities team dedicated to the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) contract.​

Working across a network of 15 regional Job Centres, you will deliver planned and reactive maintenance to ensure safe, compliant, and fully functional work environments.​

This is a mobile role, ideal for someone with a multi-skilled maintenance background who enjoys variety, independence, and working across multiple sites.

Job Description

You will carry out a broad range of maintenance tasks including carpentry, joinery, painting/decorating, minor plumbing, and general fabric repairs, supporting both planned maintenance schedules and urgent callouts.​

You will also be responsible for maintaining accurate records via PDA/CAFM systems, ensuring compliance with health & safety regulations, and representing the company professionally to all site stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Carry out fabric-related PPM, reactive, and ad hoc maintenance tasks in a timely manner.

Deliver a range of building services maintenance, including carpentry, painting, decorating, minor plumbing, and mechanical works.

Ensure all equipment and surrounding areas operate to specified performance and company standards.

Represent the company professionally to clients, ensuring a positive customer experience.

Evaluate equipment performance and ensure proper servicing and maintenance under contract.

Take a proactive approach to client liaison, escalating or relaying concerns as necessary.

Maintain accurate administration, documentation, and records, including compliance with H&S, risk assessments, and COSHH regulations.

Suggest improvements or innovations to enhance service delivery.

Work safely in accordance with company procedures and statutory regulations.

Professional and Personal Competencies/Qualifications

NVQ/City & Guilds in carpentry, woodworking, or related trade qualification or time-served multi-trades operative with significant carpentry/joinery experience.

Recognised craft apprenticeship preferred.
License to work on fire door sets desirable (training can be provided).

IPAF / PASMA certification (training provided).

Proven experience in multi-trade fabric skills, including carpentry, painting, decorating, minor building works, roof repairs, ceiling/wall/floor tiles, and general building services maintenance.

Experience adhering to Health & Safety procedures, including risk assessments and method statements.

Skills & Attributes

Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive approach to maintenance tasks.

Manual handling capability and physically able to undertake a variety of maintenance tasks.

Effective communication skills with the ability to liaise professionally with clients.
