We are continuously reviewing and enhancing the services that P&C provide across the MoJ to deliver high quality services for our customers. MoJ has a team of committed and capable professionals delivering people services across the Justice family.
With a passion for people management and a desire to build an HR generalist foundation for a future career, the post holder will work with managers from within HMPPS to optimise the effective working relationship and ensure maximum impact of HR on business effectiveness. This is your opportunity to be part of the HR enabling prisons and probation to make society safer and help people turn live.
The role will provide an interface between the MoJ People and Capability Function and the HR Business Partnering teams to ensure seamless execution of people services and products. This team will also be responsible for managing the more complex people related processes that require escalation.
The role involves a proactive approach to problem solving and enabling the organisation to find solutions to HR challenges. The postholder may be working across any number of portfolios across the employee life cycle to support the organisation to tackle high priority people challenges, requiring strong stakeholder management skills.
The post holder will be part of a central HR team which will have a national footprint, the role may be aligned to a portfolio or aligned to an area or both.
Responsibilities, activities and duties
The HR Support Hub is part of the Strategy, Stability and Support Team within the HR Business Partnering Team (HMPPS). There are two distinct teams within the HR Support Hub (Management Information Team and Resolutions and Communications Team) whose objective is to enable the HR Business Partnering Team (HMPPS) to deliver a consistent business partnering service by providing products and services deployable through HRBP teams across all HMPPS.
This role requires the ability to multi-task and provide a diverse range of support services to the broader HR Business Partnering Team (HMPPS). Strong communication and organisational skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise personal workload and adapt to accommodate urgent tasks.
The post holder will work with a wide range of stakeholders, products, services, and People policies.
Decision Making and Service Delivery
Maintaining high-quality standards is essential to delivering accurate, timely, and trusted support. This enables confident decision-making, reduces risk, and ensures services meet the needs of both internal stakeholders and wider organisational objectives. The post holder will be expected to apply sound judgement, attention to detail, and a proactive approach to ensure consistent and professional service delivery.
They will need a strong understanding of their own work area, as well as awareness of how it connects to wider organisational priorities. This broader perspective supports joined up working and helps ensure that outputs are aligned, reliable, and add value.
Communication
Strong communication skills are particularly important for building trust, influencing others, and supporting informed decision-making. Clear, inclusive, and well-structured communication is essential to delivering an effective and trusted service. This means ensuring that information is accurate, accessible, and tailored to the needs of different audiences. The post holder will be expected to communicate with clarity and professionalism, adapting their style and approach depending on the context and audience. They will often need to explain complex or technical information in a way that is easy to understand for colleagues who may not be subject matter experts.
Partnership Working
Strong partnership working is essential to delivering joined-up, effective support services. Collaborating with others helps build trust, share knowledge, and ensure that work is aligned across teams and functions. In this role, the post holder will be expected to develop positive working relationships, contribute to a supportive and inclusive team culture, and engage constructively with colleagues at all levels. This collaborative approach supports the delivery of shared goals and strengthens the impact of the wider HR function.
