Summary

PMLD Teaching Assistant

Step into a truly life-changing role supporting pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties. This role is a chance to bring joy, connection, and progress to young lives in a school that values every achievement, no matter how small. You'll be part of a passionate team, working in a high-trust, high-care environment where your presence and energy make all the difference.

The Role
As a PMLD Teaching Assistant, you'll be supporting children with complex needs that may include physical disabilities, sensory impairments, medical conditions, and limited communication. You'll deliver engaging sensory activities, promote interaction through music, light, and movement, and help pupils explore their world in a way that's meaningful to them. No two days are ever the same - one moment you're dancing to a drumbeat, the next you're celebrating a small but powerful step forward. You'll also provide personal care and work closely with therapists, teachers, and families to ensure each pupil's needs are met with dignity and respect.

The Ideal Person
What matters most in this role is your attitude. We're looking for someone:
- Compassionate, patient, and calm
- Energetic and playful, with a creative spark

Flexible and responsive to every pupil's unique way of learning and communicating
- Comfortable with personal care and physical support (training provided)
- Reliable and team-oriented, with excellent communication skills
- Experience supporting either children or adults with SEND is essential
- A Teaching Assistant qualification is desirable but not required
- Care, Social Work, Health & Social, or similar qualification required

The School
This welcoming school supports pupils with a range of complex needs. Staff work collaboratively in a highly inclusive setting where the curriculum is tailored to support communication, independence, and emotional development through engaging, play-based learning. Every child is known, celebrated, and supported by a deeply committed team.

Hours
Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 3.30pm. Both full and part time positions available.

If you're ready to bring energy, empathy, and heart to a role where the smallest moments mean the most, we'd love to hear from you.

Safeguarding children is an integral part of what we do and we have a stringent safer recruitment process. We undertake checks on all the candidates we work with. As such we require a current Enhanced DBS Disclosure for everyone working in Schools. If you do not have a subscription to the DBS Update Service, you may be required to complete a new DBS application as part of the registration process. If you take a temporary role with Sense Education you will be paid on a weekly basis. All pay rates quoted will be inclusive of 12.07% statutory holiday pay. This advert is for a temporary position but long term. In some cases, the option to make this role permanent may become available.
