Summary
We’re looking for an enthusiastic and driven Community Shop Manager to join the team at Valence School managing our community charity shop and café in Westerham High Street.
Together with the “Friends of Valence,” we launched the shop two years ago with the aim of not just raising vital funds for our school but also give our students meaningful work experience in the heart of the local community. This is a fantastic opportunity to build on its success and make a lasting impact.
As Shop Manager, you’ll be the driving force behind the shop’s success by overseeing day-to-day operations, inspiring your team of staff and volunteers to create a welcoming, safe and dynamic retail environment.
You will have retail experience and be commercially minded, creative and brimming with ideas to attract customers, source stock and keep the shop buzzing with activity.
This role is varied, unique and highly rewarding. You will motivate and guide a team of dedicated volunteers, delegate with confidence and bring fresh energy to this community hub.
Working hours are 37.5 per week, including weekends, worked on a rota basis across the shop opening hours (Monday to Saturday 9.00am to 4.30pm; Sunday 10.00am to 4.00pm). This includes 8 weeks holiday leave (including bank holiday entitlement). Benefits include a generous local government pension scheme and life cover, retail discounts, wellbeing sessions, training opportunities....
Although based in our Westerham High Street shop, overlooking the picturesque Westerham Green, you’ll be employed by Valence School and closely connected to our wider team.
‘Valence on the Green’ is more than just a shop, we:
* Offer work experience, learning and social opportunities for our students
* Sell quality new and nearly-new donated items
* Showcase products made by students as part of their curriculum
* Provide rental space for local artists and crafters
* Host community workshops and events
* Serve tea, coffee and refreshments, making it a welcoming space for all.
The "Friends of Valence School" is the school's own charity to raise funds to enhance our students' opportunities and educational lives.
Valence School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of every student and we expect all our staff and volunteers to share this commitment. We value diversity and promote equality for all.
References will be taken up before interview and online checks undertaken for shortlisted candidates. The successful applicant will require an enhanced DBS check (this post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act).
