Administrative Officer - HM Courts & Tribunals Service (HMCTS)

Overview:
Administrative Officers play a key role in supporting the effective operation of courts and tribunals. They deliver high-quality customer service and perform a range of administrative tasks to progress cases and support judicial processes. HMCTS promotes Lean principles and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

  • General Administration:
    Prepare case files, manage records, handle correspondence, photocopying, filing, and post duties.
  • Operations Support:
    Assist in court hearings, manage schedules, contact parties, serve documents, and handle enquiries (face-to-face, phone, written).
  • Casework Processing:
    Process legal documents, court orders, fines, and fees with accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Verification & Compliance:
    Check documents and records for accuracy and compliance with procedures.
  • Information Management:
    Collect, interpret, and prepare data for reports, meetings, and statistical analysis.
  • Financial Tasks:
    Perform basic financial calculations, reconcile accounts, and manage juror numbers efficiently.
  • Customer Service & Communication:
    Liaise with judiciary, legal professionals, and the public to provide guidance and enforce decisions.
  • Team Collaboration:
    Participate in team meetings, problem-solving, and contribute to process improvements and small projects.
  • Other Duties:
    May include roles such as Jury Bailiff Officer or Health & Safety Coordinator. Flexibility to work across local offices may be required.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • 5 GCSEs (A*-C) or equivalent, NVQ Level II in Business Administration, or relevant experience.
  • Strong IT and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
