Summary

Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant - SEMH / SEND School (Primary & Secondary)

Gravesend, Kent area | £95-£115 per day (depending on experience) | Full-time, term time only

Are you passionate about supporting young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs?
Do you thrive in dynamic environments where every day brings a new challenge and the chance to make a real difference?

We are working with a specialist SEMH school catering for pupils aged 5-16 (Primary to Year 11) who require additional support with their social, emotional, and behavioural development. The school offers a nurturing, inclusive environment designed to help pupils overcome barriers to learning and build confidence both in and out of the classroom.

The Role

As a Behaviour Support Teaching Assistant, you'll be part of the school's dedicated pastoral and support team.
This is not a classroom-based role - you'll move throughout the school, responding to situations as they arise and supporting pupils and staff to maintain a calm and positive learning environment.

Your responsibilities will include:
- Providing on-the-spot support to pupils displaying challenging behaviour.
- Using de-escalation, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills to promote positive outcomes.
- Building trusting relationships with pupils to help them re-engage with learning.
- Assisting in the implementation of behaviour support plans and safeguarding procedures.
- On occasion, using positive handling techniques (with full training provided) to ensure the safety of pupils and staff.

About You

We're looking for someone who:
- Has experience supporting SEND / SEMH pupils in an educational or youth setting.
- Remains calm under pressure and can think quickly to de-escalate challenging situations.
- Has strong communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills.
- Understands the importance of boundaries, consistency, and respect in working with young people.
- (Ideally) holds Team Teach or similar positive handling training - though full training can be provided.

What's on Offer
- A supportive, well-resourced school with a strong and caring staff team.
- Ongoing professional development opportunities in SEMH and behaviour management.
- A chance to make a tangible difference in the lives of young people who need it most.
- Competitive daily rates and long-term potential.
