Balfour Beatty is seeking a dynamic Quantity Surveyor to contribute to the Net Zero Teesside (NZT) project based at our site in Redcar and Cleveland.

What you'll be doing

Cost Engineering
• Prepares Activity Schedules, Resource Schedules & analyses tender documents
Estimating
• Critically appraises, estimates and negotiates the above with 3rd parties
Planning
• Reviews complex contract programmes such as Time-Location
• Assists with the preparation of delay and disruption programmes
Project Management
• Monitors subcontract activities, measure and respond appropriately
• Analyses the commercial progress and report to senior project staff
Procurement
• Undertakes constructability analyses using construction programmes
• Prepares procurement programme and helps develop the strategy
Commercial Management
• Analyses rates & prices, agreement of variations and or compensation events as required
• Prepares, submits and negotiates claims when required
• Prepares Internal reports, commercial progress and financial reconciliation
Development, Recruitment and Retention
• Produces plans for team to achieve goals / aspirations
• Involved with Company Recruitment processes

Cost Engineering
• The ability to use financial control procedures
• The ability to use existing information to value variations
Planning
• Understands and uses Contract Programmes incorporating the whole of the works
Procurement
• The ability to analyse the implication of various options
• Knowledge of Construction programmes
Commercial Management
• A sound working knowledge of the various forms of conditions of contract used for civil engineering projects
• Demonstrates knowledge & experience of contract structures & documentation
Change, Improvement and Innovation
• Discusses what change may mean with members of team
• Accepts new methods with a positive attitude to change
• Understanding of continual improvement ethos
Negotiation
• Articulates the facts with clarity, presenting their case logically and persuasively.
• Ability to identify and understand external factors which will affect the negotiation
• Ability to identify strengths and weaknesses of respective positions
Health, Safety and Environmental Awareness
• Aware of commercial implications of H, S & E issues
Development, Recruitment and Retention
• Understanding of the various development options available
• Knowledge of interview techniques
