Salary: £51,356 (Level one) rising to £54,495 (Level four) per annum (pro rata for part-time)

About the Role

We have an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, experienced and proactive individual to join our Litigation and Dispute Resolution team to undertake General Civil Litigation work. The work undertaken may include: Property Litigation, Commercial Litigation, Debt Recovery, Contractual Disputes, Claims and other general contentious work such as fee disputes. Experience in all of these areas is not a pre-requisite; however Property Litigation experience is desirable.

The role within the team is extremely varied and includes providing legal advice and assistance to the Council in respect of contentious matters such as: rent arrears (leases), forfeiture/surrender, fees, boundary disputes, lease renewals. You may be required to issue and/or defend proceedings, apply for Injunctions, apply for Charging Orders, attend Court/Tribunal hearings negotiate with third parties and/or engage in ADR on behalf of the Council. Property Litigation experience would be advantageous.

The successful candidate will be expected to take on more complex matters and will also be required to train and supervise more junior members of staff. The successful candidate will also have line management responsibility for team members as required by the Team Leader. The successful candidate will also be required to support the Team Leader with team management, ensure compliance with policies and procedures; and will be required from time to time, to deputise in the Team Leader’s absence.

You may also be required to undertake broader policy, project and/or drafting work.

The successful candidate will work alongside other Senior Solicitors, as part of a larger, Litigation and Dispute Resolution team. You will obtain experience of a wide range of work and will be fully supported to further develop your knowledge and experience.

You will need to demonstrate excellent communication, analytical and drafting skills along with the ability to undertake advocacy and supervisory/ line management responsibilities. You must be able to manage a caseload with minimum supervision and have the ability to work well within a team.

About You

The ideal candidate will have:

· Solicitor admitted for not less than 3 years, or of equivalent experience. CILEX qualification of at least 5 years with practice rights to conduct litigation and carry out advocacy in the County Court. Barrister having completed a Pupillage and called to the Bar for not less than 5 years with practice rights to conduct litigation.

· Considerable experience of undertaking complex matters in respect of some of the areas of law referred to in the job description.

· Ability to organise own workload and work under pressure with minimum supervision.

· Ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing.

· Management experience.
