About the role
We are seeking a dedicated and respectful Cemeteries Operative to join our Grounds Maintenance team. You will play an important role in maintaining our cemeteries to a high standard and assisting with the preparation and completion of burials and related duties.
This is a sensitive and rewarding role, providing a valued service to the local community at times of need.
Key Responsibilities
• Prepare graves and cremation plots in accordance with relevant legislation and safety standards.
• Carry out interments and assist funeral directors and mourners in a professional and respectful manner.
• Maintain cemetery grounds, memorials, and landscaped areas, including but not limited to grass cutting, strimming, blowing, and general upkeep.
• Operate and maintain equipment and machinery safely and efficiently.
• Ensure accurate record-keeping and compliance with health and safety regulations.
• Support colleagues across Bereavement Services when required.
About You
You will have:
• Experience in burial and or cremation services.
• Experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a similar outdoor environment.
• An understanding of health and safety regulations.
• The ability to work sensitively and respectfully with members of the public.
• You should also be able to work outdoors in all weather conditions and as part of a small, supportive team.
Alongside this you’ll need to be a competent, dependable, and motivated individual with a keen eye for detail.
A full UK driving licence is essential.
