Carl Zeiss Microscopy Ltd and Carl Zeiss Ltd are seeking an experienced and forward-thinking Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to lead our safety culture and ensure compliance across our UK sites and field-based teams.
This is a pivotal position, offering the opportunity to shape and drive the HSE strategy across manufacturing, technical, and office environments - influencing how our people work safely, sustainably, and effectively.
About the Role
As the HSE Manager, you will take ownership of developing, implementing, and continuously improving our HSE systems and culture across multiple sites. You'll act as the key advisor to leadership, ensuring that all health, safety, and environmental practices meet legal requirements and reflect best-in-class standards.
You'll also play a vital role in engaging staff, fostering awareness, and embedding a positive safety culture across every level of the organisation.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a robust HSE strategy aligned with corporate and legal requirements.
- Review and implement HSE policies, procedures, and safe systems of work.
- Oversee and support comprehensive risk assessments and control measures.
- Manage accident and near-miss reporting, investigation, and trend analysis.
- Deliver HSE training and maintain accurate training records.
- Ensure compliance with COSHH, DSEAR, Fire Safety, and Environmental regulations.
- Monitor performance metrics, analyse data, and drive continuous improvement initiatives.
- Build strong partnerships with internal teams and external stakeholders to promote engagement and collaboration.
- Provide expert advice on all HSE-related matters and participate in audits and accreditation processes.
About You

Essential experience and qualifications include:
- Minimum 5 years' experience managing health, safety, and environmental compliance in a manufacturing or technical environment.
- Strong working knowledge of COSHH management and environmental legislation.
- In-depth understanding of UK Health, Safety and Environmental law and best practice.
- NEBOSH General Certificate (or equivalent) required.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and influencing skills.
- Confident using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
Desirable:
- Knowledge of construction-related safety, laser or radiation safety, and process gas systems.
- Experience within a production or microscopy technology environment.
- Advanced HSE qualifications or additional NEBOSH certifications.
