Summary

The Home Office works to build a safe, fair and prosperous UK. We achieve this through our work on counter-terrorism, policing, fire, crime, drugs policy, immigration and passports.

The Science, Technology, Research and Analysis (STAR) Group sits at the heart of the Home Office. The group ensures the best evidence and analysis are used to address the strategic issues facing the department. We also provide the science, technology, data, and international insights and collaboration capabilities to drive delivery.

Part of the Home Office Analysis & Insight directorate, the Performance Reporting & Analysis Unit (PRAU) provides reporting and analysis of performance for the Migration & Borders Mission and associated operational Capabilities. We support Ministers, the Executive Committee, Policy and Operational leads and other analytical functions with the management information (MI) that they need, as well as producing data for publication and other forms of external release. The Unit also provides advice and support to others in the Department on how to make best use of performance information and is leading on the transformation of MI systems and capabilities.

This post provides an opportunity to work in a fast-paced environment, engaging with projects that work across the department to understand and deliver reporting requirements both short and long term, and provides opportunity to understand first-hand how the different parts of the Home Office, and external bodies use and interact with key performance information. The job holder will hold several responsibilities, including delivery of regular and ad-hoc business reporting requirements, as well as playing a key role in embedding new technologies and shaping the future delivery of MI services.

The successful candidate will work closely with Passports, Citizenship and Civil Registration (PCCR). They will need to develop an in depth understanding of this area to ensure that business processes are reflected in the data of new or existing reports. They will have or need to develop business analysis skills to capture business requirements and translate them into actionable work. They will also play a critical role in the shaping, design, and development of new reports.

Main responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Build and maintain strong, constructive relationships with team leaders and staff across PRAU.
• Collaborate effectively with colleagues in other Home Office areas, particularly Border Force, UKVI, and Immigration Enforcement operational leads.
• Develop a solid understanding of the borders and immigration system.
• Lead or support the transition of unit activities as new technologies emerge. Recognising and promoting the potential of new technologies to enhance business performance.
• Demonstrate a passion for data and technology, with the ability to engage with large operational datasets both at a strategic and detailed level.
• Deliver excellent customer service in a fast-paced environment, proactively managing service demand. Maintaining high standards of quality, with strong attention to detail in all deliverables.
• Handle multiple tasks and issues simultaneously, prioritising effectively and resolving challenges. Proactively reviewing outputs to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
• Coordinate the publication of a high-quality quarterly release of transparency data on PCCR performance, working with data providers across PRAU and other departments.

Working Pattern

This role is available on a full-time basis with the option of compressed hours working. This role is also suitable for part-time working hours, with a minimum requirement to work 4 days per week (0.8 FTE) due to business requirements.
