West Hertfordshire CommunityRespiratoryService provided by CLCHNHS Trustis looking for a motivated, enthusiastic respiratory support worker to work in association with qualified physiotherapy and nursing staff.

The role isto provide pulmonary rehabilitation within a community settingandspecific physical therapies within patients own home.The West Herts Pulmonary Rehabilitationprogrammeis proud to be an accredited service through the Royal College of Physicians and holds quality andteam workingas core values.

This post is to work within a multidisciplinary respiratory team to deliver the Community respiratory service in West Hertfordshire. To work in association with qualified physiotherapy and nursing staff to provide an integrated service for patients in the area of pulmonary rehabilitation within the community and to implement and progress agreed planned treatment programmes for patients within their own homes.



To communicate with all members of the multi-professional team, regarding changes in the patient's condition or any other useful information. §

To communicate effectively with patients and carers to maximise rehabilitation potential. §

Communication skills of persuasion, motivation and explanation will be needed. Barriers to effective communication will regularly be evident including cognitive impairment, breathlessness, embarrassment, anxiety, pain, fear and visual/hearing impairments. Clear and effective verbal and non-verbal communication skills will be necessary.

To liaise with GPs, social services, voluntary services, acute and community trusts to provide a complete patient centred service.

To work within established guidelines. To assess patient’s response to interventions and decide appropriate action.

To carry out exercise programmes and agreed interventions with patients without direct supervision on pre assessed patients in their own home.

To assist in the running of pulmonary rehabilitation classes under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.

To provide administrative support as necessary including making patient appointments, preparing hand-outs and data inputting.

To manage own diary with ability to re-prioritise workload depending on clinical need as directed by qualified physiotherapist/nurse.
