Summary
The role holder is responsible for leading data management and analytics across the Vp group. Leading the data and analytics team, this role must ensure the group maximises the value of data for the benefit of internal and external customers, setting out investment in data and then leading implementation of projects t to deliver value. Vp’s head of data defines, directs and influences use of data across the whole organisation from internal and external technology teams, to commercial teams focused on our broad customer base.
Reporting into the Group CIO and working alongside the Technology SLT, the role holder will act as a senior leader across the group. The individual will also nurture and grow Vp’s data community; educating and developing organisational skill at with data.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and manage business and technical aspects of data and analytics systems. Ensure data quality, integrity, and smooth system operations
- Translate strategy into local action plans, align with organisational goals, and motivate teams to achieve results
- Deliver data elements of the digital roadmap using agile and design-thinking methods to ensure sustainable operations
- Oversee data collection and architecture, ensuring accuracy, simplicity, and effective collaboration with stakeholders
- Define and manage data standards, policies, and governance processes.
- Analyse business performance, customer behaviour, and market trends to identify opportunities for data-driven improvements
- Engage with data stakeholders, understand their needs, and build commitment through effective communication and collaboration
- Coordinate with consultants/contractors to support projects, track outcomes, and implement improvements
- Manage team and system budgets, support wider organisational budgeting processes, and ensure value delivery within budget
- Stay current with policies, procedures, and regulations; ensure compliance and address non-conformities
- Set and manage performance objectives for self and team, leveraging systems to drive continuous improvement
What We’re Looking For
- Deep expertise in GDPR, DPA, and PECR data regulations
- Extensive experience in data management, reporting, and analytics, with a proven record of leading organization-wide data functions
- Strong knowledge of agile and product methodologies, supported by relevant certifications
- Skilled in selecting appropriate design tools from standard data design methodologies and frameworks (e.g., DMBok)

Desirable although not a must have…
- Extensive experience in commercial (sales) organizations, primarily within the hire sector
- Knowledgeable in construction, rail, and utility industries
- Active participant in data communities across sectors, local networks, and technology groups
