Job Title: Refuge Support Worker
Job Type: Permanent
Hours: 7 – 15 hours per week (Weekends and twilight shifts)
Sunday 10am – 6pm (7 hours)
with the option of the following additional shifts:
Saturday 8am – 12noon
Twilight shifts (Monday – Friday) 5:30pm – 8:30pm/9:30pm
Hourly rate: £12.25
Are you passionate about helping vulnerable women and children? Fortalice is aiming to recruit a compassionate Refuge Support Worker based in our Refuge. In this rewarding role, you will help women and families affected by domestic abuse rebuild their lives. The ideal candidate will have experience with vulnerable people, a non-judgmental approach, and a commitment to fostering independence and resilience. If this role interests you and you genuinely care about victims of domestic abuse, we can offer full training.
Purpose of the role:
The role is based at Lewis House, a dedicated Refuge with 22 self-contained flats and outstanding OFSTED rated Children’s Nursery. Staffed 24 hours by our team of Family Support Workers, the facility includes offices, a meeting room and communal areas for group activities. Refuge Support Workers will work under the direction of the Leadership Team, also at times, unsupervised, providing the continuity of services. Refuge Support Workers will contribute to the support and well-being of resident women, children and young people to ensure their stay at the Refuge is a positive experience. Reception duties, housekeeping and general office admin will be a key part of the role.

You will be passionate about empowering vulnerable women and children, with a deep understanding of the impact of trauma and domestic abuse. Your strong communication skills and non-judgmental approach will help you build supportive relationships and foster independence. Refuge Support Workers will contribute to the support and wellbeing of resident women, children and young people to ensure their stay at the Refuge is a positive experience.
