Seeing acutely unwell patients Reviewing/ clerking neurosurgical patients Daily review of neurosurgery in-patients in conjunction with/ under the supervision of the consultant and SpR, including those out-lying on other wards Cannulating patients, and performing ward-based procedures such as Lumbar Punctures Ordering investigations and tests (and chasing these to ensure they are performed in a timely manner) Acknowledging and acting upon blood results in timely manner Preparing e-discharges and TTOs for patients Prescribing and reviewing medications Attending regular governance meetings such as QIPS and M&M and participate in quality improvement projects such as clinical audits. Expected attendance is 40 60%. To participate in the 1 in 10 on call rota for Neurosurgery. To maintain comprehensive and accurate medical records and adherence to Trust/national documentation standard. To communicate clearly with patients and relatives on aspects relating to their condition and treatment plans Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with medical colleagues in other specialties and participate in regular clinical meetings and other post-graduate activities. To see emergency admissions under the guidance of senior staff and ensure that proper notes are made, investigations instituted and treatment carried out under supervision. Take responsibility for improving and complying with practices including patient safety and infection control standards. Ensure mandatory training is kept up to date at 100% and comply with all relevant Trust policies and procedures Participate in the academic and educational programme of the department Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults is your responsibility. Familiarisation with and adherence to UHCW Safeguarding policies and Coventry and Warwickshire Safeguarding Board procedures is an essential requirement of all employees, as is the participation in related mandatory training. Clinical responsibility for assisting in the investigation, diagnosis and treatment, under consultant supervision. Expected to attend daily consultant ward rounds; present cases and discuss the differential diagnosis and management; carry out appropriate practical skills with patients. Responsible for maintaining a full clinical record of patients admitted to the ward; required to produce a written summary of the admission at the time of discharge; will participate in audit data collection and attend clinical governance / audit meetings.
