Summary

Joining our well-established and dynamic team as a Senior Public Health Practitioner – Nutrition, you’ll be supported to develop your career in Public Health. You’ll play a vital role in addressing health inequalities and preventing ill-health in our communities by delivering key ambitions within our Public Health Strategy. As part of the wider Hampshire Public Health team, you’ll work in a collaborative and innovative environment that values continuous improvement and impact.

What you’ll do:
Lead and deliver key public health programmes that include:

• Public health nutrition programmes: Lead and commission nutrition programmes focussing on increasing fruit and vegetable intake, training people working with vulnerable groups such as older adults and people with learning disabilities, and marketing of low-cost healthy food options.

• Food insecurity: Provide technical advice and support to the Hampshire Food Alliance ensuring good nutrition is embedded into local response to food insecurity and helping partners use data and evidence to shape effective place-based responses.

• Whole systems approaches: Work with multi-agency partners to develop and implement whole systems approaches to healthy weight.

• Provision of up-to-date technical advice and support: Develop partnerships with, and provide up-to-date guidance to the public health team, professionals working with children, older adults and other inequalities groups, NHS providers and food support providers. This includes advising how Government policy, emerging research, data trends and industry practice affect public health objectives.

Support the wider work of the public health team by:
• Working in a matrix structure to support the wider team’s functions and priorities, including the Hampshire Public Health Strategy.

• Providing technical advice and support to teams working in a range of portfolio areas.

• Building and maintaining strong partnerships with a range of professionals and organisations.

What we’re looking for:
• A Masters degree in a relevant subject area.

• Current professional registration in dietetics or nutrition (Dietician registered with the Health Care Professionals Council or nutritionist registered with the Association for Nutrition).

• A good understanding of public health principles and practice, with strong experience in a public health setting, ideally with a focus on food insecurity, nutrition, and healthy weight.

• Knowledge and experience in:
- Public health nutrition programmes.
- Working in partnership to deliver public health outcomes.
- Using the latest intelligence and evidence to inform nutritional advise and support.

• Strong communication and partnership-building skills.

• Ability to manage and prioritise multiple complex and diverse priorities effectively and simultaneously.

• Ability to work autonomously and use initiative to identify and develop public health nutrition programmes.

• Ability to identify & appraise options and make evidence-based recommendations.
