Job Summary
The Freezer Storeman, , is responsible for the efficient and safe handling of all goods and stock within the sub-zero temperature freezer storage facility. The role involves managing inventory, picking orders, and preparing items for dispatch, all while adhering to strict health, safety, and hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
• Goods Inward: Receive, check, and store incoming frozen goods, verifying quantities and quality against delivery notes and purchase orders.
• Order Picking: Use paper lists to accurately pick and pack customer orders in a fast-paced environment.
• Stock Management: Maintain accurate inventory records and ensure effective stock rotation (e.g., FIFO—first-in, first-out) to minimise wastage.
• Loading and Dispatch: Prepare completed pallets or cages for loading onto delivery vehicles and assist with the loading and unloading process.
• Inventory Control: Conduct regular stock checks and report any discrepancies, damages, or shortages to the supervisor.
• Equipment Operation: Operate manual handling equipment such as pallet trucks, and potentially mechanical equipment like forklifts (Reach and Counterbalance) if qualified.
• Housekeeping: Keep the freezer and warehouse areas clean, tidy, and organised, ensuring all potential hazards are dealt with safely.
• Health and Safety: Adhere to all company and statutory regulations regarding food hygiene, health and safety, and the use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Temperature Monitoring: Regularly check and record freezer temperatures to ensure accurate storage conditions and product integrity.

Skills and Experience:
• Previous experience in a warehouse, storage, or cold-storage environment is desirable.
• Experience with order picking and or warehouse management systems is beneficial.
• A valid forklift licence (Reach and/or Counterbalance) is often advantageous, but not always essential.
• Proven ability to work effectively under pressure and meet performance targets.

Attributes:
• A "can-do" attitude with a flexible and adaptable approach to work.
• Good communication skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Excellent attention to detail and a high degree of accuracy.
• Physically active, with the ability to withstand working in sub-zero temperatures and perform manual handling tasks, including lifting heavy items.

Qualifications:
• While formal qualifications are not always required, basic IT skills and a good standard of literacy and numeracy are helpful.
• Full training is provided on the job.

Working Conditions
• This is a physically demanding role that requires long periods of standing, bending, stretching, and lifting.
• The work is performed in a cold-storage freezer environment, with temperatures as low as -25°C.
• Full thermal PPE, including freezer boots, jackets, and gloves, will be provided by the employer.
• Hours can be irregular and may include shift work, nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
