Summary
This is a full-time clinical post based at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital, to provide elective and emergency care for ophthalmology patients as part of a multidisciplinary team. This is a full-time clinical post, primarily based at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital, to provide elective and emergency care for ophthalmology patients as part of a multidisciplinary team. The Fellow will be given protected theatre sessions to allow exposure and training in advanced cataract and vitreoretinal surgery supervised by the vitreoretinal consultant lead. This is an ideal post for those aiming to obtain and develop subspecialty training in the management of retinal disease with exposure to medical and surgical retinal diseases. Kingston hospital has regular clinics specialising in age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, uveitis, and general retinal diseases. The post holder will receive training in the management of medical and vitreoretinal retinal disorders, including vitreoretinal surgical procedures, intravitreal injections and insertion of intravitreal steroid implants and retinal laser procedures. To maintain their general ophthalmic skills, the post holder will have a regular Eye Casualty session at Kingston Hospital. To supervise and organise the Retina Journal Club that is held weekly (On Thursday morning) at the REU. Regular clinical duties, based at The Royal Eye Unit, Kingston Hospital involve the management of ophthalmic outpatients which may include a community clinic close to the hospital, with support from a Retina Consultant.
