The team

You will be joining the Specialist Technical Team for Sport who are responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the facilities and equipment utilised across the school. The team also facilitates more equipment heavy sessions working to help teach students the knowledge and skills in small groups as well as enabling students to be able to undertake research projects such as their dissertation projects. This may involve working 1-1 to demo and teach students knowledge and skills to operate the equipment, and collect good date as well as understand the health and safety requirements.

The role

This is an excellent opportunity to join our well-established sport department in our technical team here at York St John University. We offer 3 core course pathways in sport; Physical Education and Sports Coaching, Sport and Exercise Science and, Sports and Exercise Therapy. We have a knowledgeable teaching team producing “world leading” and “internationally excellent” research in line with the Research excellence framework 2021. We offer facilities with world leading equipment utilised in both teaching and research, enabling students to pursue careers in professional sport, teaching or sports therapy.

You would join the Specialist Technical Team, providing dedicated support and specialist facility management to the whole sport department. Working closely with the academic team you will be required to have a constant overview and maintain the specialist environments and equipment within the facility. You will also be expected to oversee key aspects of practical activities and in lesson support as directed by the academic team, engaging with students to help facilitate their learning. Applications from those with a knowledge base in physiology would be desirable but not required.

We welcome applications from those seeking a full-time opportunity working Monday-Friday 8.30/9am – 5pm. Occasional evening or weekend work where necessary.

Required skills and experience

The successful candidate will have experience of supporting the management of resources and equipment. We are looking for someone with excellent interpersonal skills, experience of previously working in a higher education and/or sport science profession is desirable but not essential.
