Purpose of the Role. This Day Nursery is a brand new childcare setting planning to open in November 2025. We are looking for a nursery practitioner to provide high-quality care and early education for children aged 6months–5 years in line with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), promoting their learning, development and wellbeing in a safe, stimulating, and inclusive environment. We are a family run business with a happy, healthy, fun and educational sentiment at the heart of the nursery. Key Responsibilities
1. Childcare and Education
Deliver the EYFS curriculum through engaging, age-appropriate activities that encourage learning and development across all areas.
Observe, assess, and record children’s progress using the nursery’s observation system (e.g., online learning journal or paper format).
Plan and implement next steps for each child, supporting their individual learning journey.
Encourage positive behaviour, independence, and social interaction.
Support children’s personal care routines, including feeding, toileting, and hygiene, with sensitivity and respect.
2. Safeguarding and Welfare
Ensure the safety and wellbeing of all children at all times.
Follow the nursery’s safeguarding policy and report any concerns to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) without delay.
Maintain awareness of child protection procedures, Prevent Duty, and British Values.
Adhere to all health and safety policies, completing risk assessments and daily checks as required.
Administer first aid or medication only when trained and authorised.
3. Partnership with Parents and Carers
Build warm, professional relationships with families to support children’s learning and emotional security.
Provide daily feedback on each child’s experiences, progress, and wellbeing.
Work collaboratively with parents to identify and support individual needs.
Maintain confidentiality and professionalism at all times.
4. Teamwork and Professional Practice
Work collaboratively as part of a dedicated nursery team, contributing ideas and supporting colleagues.
Participate in regular team meetings, supervision sessions, and staff training.
Reflect on personal practice and engage in continuous professional development (CPD).
Support the room leader and management team in maintaining high standards across the setting.
Contribute to the nursery’s Ofsted readiness, ensuring all documentation and practice meet regulatory requirements.


5. Inclusion and Equality
Promote equal opportunities and celebrate diversity within the nursery.
Support children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) in partnership with the nursery’s SENCO and outside agencies.
Ensure all activities and experiences are inclusive and accessible to every child.
6. Record Keeping and Administration
Maintain accurate records, including attendance registers, accident/incident forms, and developmental observations.
Follow GDPR and confidentiality guidelines when handling personal information.
Support with general nursery duties such as setting up rooms, cleaning, and preparing resources.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential:
Level 3 qualification in Early Years Education / Childcare (e.g., NVQ, CACHE, or equivalent)
Sound knowledge of the EYFS Framework
Understanding of safeguarding, health & safety, and child protection procedures
Good communication and teamwork skills
Desirable:
Current Paediatric First Aid certificate
Food Hygiene certificate
Experience using digital observation systems (e.g., Family, Tapestry, or similar)
SEND awareness or training
Current dbs. or be on the dbs. update service
