Additional requirement: Must be able to travel, using public or other forms of transport or by holding a valid UK driving licence with access to own or pool car.
The role:
We are looking for an experienced and professional SEND Case Officer to manage SEND casework and ensure the smooth running of statutory assessment processes under key legislation, including the Children & Families Act 2014 and the SEND Code of Practice to help improve outcomes for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities.
In order to be successful in this role, you must be educated to degree level or equivalent, with proven experience supporting vulnerable individuals, skilled in multi-agency collaboration, knowledgeable in SEND legal frameworks, and possessing strong communication, organisational, and problem-solving abilities.
Key responsibilities:
Case Management: Act as the named officer for a caseload of children and young people with complex SEND needs, supporting families through statutory assessment and review processes
Statutory Duties: Ensure legal compliance with SEND legislation, maintaining accurate records and liaising with schools, professionals, and families
EHCP Coordination: Attend and chair multi-agency meetings; lead on decision-making around EHCPs, placements, provision, and personal budgets
Stakeholder Engagement: Work closely with schools, colleges, health and care partners to ensure provision meets needs and promotes positive outcomes
Funding & Commissioning: Contribute to financial control of the High Needs Block, support commissioning of placements, and prepare cases for mediation or legal challenge where required
Quality Assurance & Training: Promote good practice, deliver training, and advise on SEND processes across education settings and services
What the client is looking for:
Educated to degree level or with equivalent relevant experience, with the ability to develop specialist knowledge in key areas
Proven experience managing and resolving conflicts, and working empathetically yet professionally with children, young people, families, and vulnerable individuals across diverse settings
Skilled in building effective, multi-agency partnerships and working collaboratively across professions to deliver high-quality services
Strong understanding of the legal, statutory, and regulatory frameworks related to Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, including assessment processes and relevant legislation/guidance
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities
Highly organised, with the ability to plan, prioritise, and work effectively under pressure
Creative problem-solver with the ability to innovate within regulatory frameworks to improve service delivery
