Summary

The AI Policy team is newly established to explore the opportunities and challenges that artificial intelligence brings to the UK’s world-leading creative and cultural sector. AI is a top priority for the Government, and we work across departments including the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, HM Treasury and No. 10.

Our mission is to support innovation while ensuring that creators, creative businesses and cultural institutions can thrive in a rapidly changing digital landscape. We work across government, industry, and the research community to understand how AI is shaping areas such as film, music, publishing, games, and across all creative industries and the cultural sector.

A key area of our work involves the implications of AI for copyright and intellectual property. We work across government and industry to shape a fair and future-proof framework that protects creative rights while enabling technological progress.

Alongside the work on copyright, the team also supports the Government's AI Opportunities Action Plan and works to establish a Creative Content Exchange to be a trusted marketplace for selling, buying, licensing, and enabling permitted access to digitised cultural and creative assets.

We are seeking an experienced leader to drive the development and implementation of AI policy within the creative industries. This role will focus on supporting the adoption of AI in ways that grow the creative sectors, enhance productivity, promote innovation and strengthen the creative labour market.

The post holder will design policy, programmes and guidance that help creative businesses and freelancers integrate AI into real workflows, reduce adoption barriers, and build the skills needed for sustained sector growth while supporting the UK's wider industrial, skills and export priorities. You will work across government and in close collaboration with sector bodies, building impactful relationships to shape policy.

This is a unique opportunity to lead the UK's approach to AI in the creative sectors, ensuring that AI supports the growth and sustainability of the UK's world-leading creative industries, driving innovation and productivity while supporting a vibrant creative labour market.
